So I just did my taxes and turns out uncle sam's gonna be sending me back a few bucks. Been thinking about switching over to LPVO's from an EOTECH+magnifier. This would be going on a 16" AR in 5.56 that I'd use for DMR style matches out to 600ish yards. It would also be my "SHTF" rifle so to speak.

I haven't compared them side by side but I like the glass on both and I could work with either one. The reticles on the gen II aren't great IMO and I'd probably go with the BDC reticle if I was getting that one but I think I'd prefer the mil grid on the gen III and the ATACR. I'd also like being able to dial with the ATACR when needed. Obviously the gen II would be the cheapest and it would be nice to save some money but it seems to be the least versatile of the three.

For those that've tried them, how does the eyebox and FOV compare between the razors and the atacr? I thought I read FFP optics have a smaller eyebox due to the tech of the scope. Also, which do you think would best fit my needs?

I'm also open to other suggestions for what I could look at.

I’ve never ran the ATACR but I‘ve run the Vortex Gen 2 and now run a Gen 3. From your post I think the Gen 3 is perfect. I’ve run my easily, out to 800 on my 3gun rifle. The great thing about the Gen 3 is the 1x which is perfect for SHTF and 3gun. I love the 1x for fast shooting in 3gun and quick shooting on hogs. 10x is kinda tight on the eye box but very flexible below 8x.

Do you feel the gen 3 is as fast/easy to get on target at the gen 2 at 1x? And what mount are you using?

Yes it is. Both are great at 1x and almost like a red dot. I have my Gen III in a Warne mount now.

The Gen 2 is hard to beat at 1x but the Gen 3 is very good. Unless you ran both you couldn’t tell that the Gen 3 isn’t perfect, but it’s a great 1x. My splits are the same between Gen 2 and 3, along with transitions. Let’s just say they got the Gen 3 right for 3gun, which is 75-80% at 1x. I think it would be great for SHTF too. I would even say for hunting/dangerous game rifle it would be awesome too (other than weight). It’s also nice to know that you have up to 10x for long range if needed. I run Warne cantilever mounts on my 3gun gear.

It’s only at the higher power that the eye box is tighter on the Gen III and not due to ffp but the construction in the wide power range. At the lower powers they are almost identical and work equally well.
