Hey guys, I just ordered a vortex razor hd from scott, well I got the American Defense Recon S 35 mm mount and I think it is going to be about 7/8" above the front hand guard... do yall think that is too high? I know the razor has a lot of adjustment in it so it shouldnt be a big deal, but isnt there some science to getting it as close to the barrel as possible to help accuracy? should I get some medium or high IOR rings instead? would I be better off? thanks for the help.

If the bottom of the scope's bell is 7/8" above the rail...it sounds like it is too high at least in that respect.

More importantly however...how is the clearance of the eyepiece above the rail (and your corresponding cheek weld)? Also, how far is the scope from the centerline of the bore?

Well, the scope isnt here yet... it will be on its way on tuesday. So I dont have all that info yet... but you think its probably too high and I should sell the mount and then get some rings for it so its lower? I think I will like it lower for my cheek weld... not sure yet though... I want to get a PRS stock in the future so that can help either way...

The OD of the front is 59mm minus 35mm of the tube gives you 12mm from the bottom of the tube to the bottom of the front bell. This is with no scope cap, so add at least 2mm to have some clearance. Lowest clearance from your upper's rail needs to be .550(14mm). I've got a razor in hand, but no rings of that height to confirm on my AR.

I've got an AR10 with a PH 3-15x50 with the American Defense Recon S 34mm mount. Here's a pic of mine. The scope height seems about perfect for me. I know your Razor HD is a little different.

The problem with mounting optics on flatrail AR's is NOT getting the optic high enough to get a proper cheekweld. If you have a Magpul stock, just raise the cheekpiece.

If the optic is too low, it will interfere with charging the weapon-even with a tactical latch.I wouldn't worry about the accuracy standpoint-except that if the scope is so low, you'll be uncomfortable and your shooting will suffer.

thanks guys! I will see what its like when I get here... I might try and get a prs or some kind of cheek riser because those mounts are so nice...

Re: Razor HD Mounting on AR10 - Help with rings/base

Hey do yall know if high IOR 35mm rings would work and keep the bell off of the handguards? How high is "high" exactly? My friend has a 30mm falcon with a 44mm bell and high rings and a YHM rail that extends the upper picatinny rail the exact height and his has about a 1/4" gap. But the AR10 handguard is smaller and not as tall as a quad rail... so would the high work? what about mediums maybe like this mount? Sorry for all the questions, i just dont have the gun/scope or rings in front of me.
