RCBS case prep center any good?

Re: RCBS case prep center any good?

I've had one around 10 years and it hasn't let me down yet. Its so good both Lyman and Hornady have recently copied the design.

Re: RCBS case prep center any good?

I bought the lyman one. It was more economical when I bought it and I like the layout of the 5 rotating heads better. You can't really get to the 5th spot on the RCBS one. Also the Lyman has a "work area" that collects the brass shavings and a little cup in front you can brush them into and then it pops out and you can dump it in the trash. The RCBS cutters fit it just fine. I use the RCBS crimp remover to do the primer pockets on military .223 brass and it works very well. Then use a primer pocket uniformer. Then after each firing hit the uniformer tool again after decaping and most of the carbon comes out. I have also used the flash hole deburing tool screwed into this and it worked well (after sizing/trim to uniform length)...

Mine saves me a ton of time. Not benchrest accurate, but for less sensitive prep steps - indispensable. Figure out how you are going to hold on to your brass, because finger fatigue is about the only drawback.

So do you have another set up for bench rest reloading? I'm in the same boat, just looking for 1 set up.... trying to decided if I should get the case trim center or piece all the individual tools together and use a power drill.

Re: RCBS case prep center any good?

+1 on finger fatigue. 50 - 150 pieces is no problem, beyond that it starts to become torture. Gloves help to a point.

It's a solid unit, but IMHO the motor turns so slowly it feels like I'm waiting forever (it's just a couple of seconds in reality, but you just know that if it was running faster you'd cut your time in half). I mounted mine in an old cookie sheet to contain the shavings / mess.

I'm glad I got it and use it frequently for my rifle stuff, but if I was doing it over again I'd see if any of the newer stuff had design improvements.

Well, you will have to have a trimmer. I use my forster trimmer to deburr the inside neck if I am concerned, usually not. I don't shoot benchrest, and if you only want one set-up then you don't either, so yes, it should meet your needs.

+1 on the slow speed

I would checkout the newer stuff, but I wouldn't spend more than RCBS wants.
