I have a rcbs chargemaster that I use for all my precision loads and have been using it for my 55fmj ar15 loads as well. What powder throw dispenser works well for bulk loading such as the AR15 ammo?? I've never used any and figured I'd see which ones have good reviews. Powder used will be mostly H335.

Thanks,

Alan

Re: RCBS, Redding Powder dispensers??

Alan, If you want to drop powder like H335, then a basic RCBS Uniflow will serve you very well. I picked one up off Ebay, complete with the stand, and use it exclusivly for throwing H335 charges into .223AI cases. I weigh charges to 0.01 for my fclass gun. I'm happy w/ 0.1 in the varmint gun, and the measure really surprised me. Likly won't do it w/ Varget or other stick powder, but is sure is good w/ ball and fine flake. By the way, the benchstand is well worth the extra coin.

Belive it or not, Ive tried them all, and Ill take the Lee Perfect Powder Measure over both RCBS and Redding. It doesnt cut powder, instead it has a elastometer wiper and trows very cisistent charges. Did I mention its dirt cheap?

Re: RCBS, Redding Powder dispensers??

Redding, RCBS, Lyman, Hornady, all very good for ball powders...any effective differences are trival and variations between individual tools, not the brand.

I prefer the Redding and Hornady measures because they come standard with a nicely calibrated adjustment knob for resettng the cavity easily.

Do get a bench stand. Then set it back a foot or more from the bench front edge and near the press.

Putting a measure on the front eats valuable bench space unnessarily, exposes the measure itself to stray bumps and possible damage as well as making it inconvient to use! Only worst place to put a measure is in the press!

Lee's little plastic "Perfect" measure is perhaps the best, most consistant, device to meter coarse grained rifle powders but it's not so good with ball powders.

Anything works as well as another for medium grained powders.

really? I felt my redding dispenser was better then my lee measure. Might have to give them another test.

Re: RCBS, Redding Powder dispensers??

Really, when I did my test using both Vargay and RL15, the Lee beat the other 2. I trew 20 charges with each for the test. It did even better with ball powders.

I have a uniflow with a stand... I like it, throws charges consistently imo, or to a fair degree for someone looking to reload in bulk, rather than chase exact precise amounts.

The stand is well worth the investment
