I have the RCBS Trim Pro POWER case trimmer. I have noticed when trimming my brass I have a slight Scratch on the inside of the necks (about half way around the inside of the neck) from the mandrel spinning on it nomatter how hard I try to get/keep the case straight before I start trimming.

I have tried polishing it (mandrel) up a little bit which doesnt help and you cant use a one size smaller mandrel cuz your brass will just slop around when spinning and it will be twice as bad.

After I trim them I run the neck thru a brass brush a couple times to smooth out the scratch. This helps out alot but sometimes will leave some of the scratch still in there.

I was wondering if this is hurting my pull on the bullets when fired and when seating my bullets. I cant really "feel" the scratch when seating but it just doesnt look good.

I can take some pics and post them but I just got done loading my bullets. I will try to find some old brass laying around and take some pics so you guys could see what im talking about.

I cant be the only one with this problem, if its even a problem at all.

Damn, I wish I would have bought a Wilson trimmer (doesnt need collets!)

the wilson trimmer isnt all its cracked up to be , but i have one , it doesnt do what your rcbs is doing. Im not a fan of RCBS , the only good thing i know about them is the warranty.

I love my RCBS with the 3 way cutter head. When you get it adjusted right, the trimming leaves the necks smooth as a babies hinnie.

If you drag a pin over it does it catch the scratch? If the pin doesn't catch it shouldn't be an issue. It sounds like there may be something on the edge of the guide button not the sides. Try a little 400-600 grit paper and touch the edges of the button not the sides. I'll second the three way cutter. I upgraded to the Powered unit and three way cutters this summer. If I was going to get something other than the RCBS it would be the Giraud. See below, very fast. Still jealous.

Yes, when I drag a pin over it, it does catch. It cant help anything. Ill have to purchase the 3-way cutter and get it set up right w/ some 600grit sandpaper just in case. This happens on ALL ofthe collets I use. WTF.

I got some 000 steel wool and some fine sandpaper. Im going to give it (collets) some turning with those and see if I could get the scratches to stop.

Re: RCBS Trim Pro Power Trimmer problem.!!

Sorry, I missed your post last week. If a pin catches it's deep enough to cause a problem. I have only used the three way trimmer on the Power Pro. On the handcrank trimmer I had the guide buttons. To me it sounds like a burr or something but it's odd that it's with all the ones you've tried. I wonder if you are getting a brass shaving stuck in the neck.

The only thing I had to adjust was the outside chamfer. It was a little to far away. You can adjust the inside but it is supposed to be set already.

Same thing for me. I love the 3 way trimming device for the RCBS trimmer. Cuts down a lot of time out of case prep.
