Gunsmithing Re using a factory barrel?

I have rem 700 SA that I traded the bolt for a WSM bolt and am picking up a 300wsm barrel from a guy locally that is a take off from an SPS (I believe it is a sporter barrel) what should t take for a gunsmith to install it on my action and headspace it off the new bolt? Do the feed rails need to be opened up for the wsm casings? What should something like this run me? Most of the more well to do builders all say on their websites that to install a barrel they have to true the action but I don't see the need for that since it is already chambered and threaded for the factory rem action.

One last question I wanted to cut it down to 22" and put a brake on it but with it being a sporter barrel I don't think a little bastard or the like would fit on it. What recommendations for a brake do y'all have? Main purpose will be hunting but a lot of target/ range time in off season and as a side note I already have a 7mm Bartlein on order to make it a 7wsm but that is a little down bit down the road and want to use his set up until then.
All your feedback is greatly appreciated

Re: Re using a factory barrel?

You may just get lucky on the headspace. Sometimes the recoil lug thickness can be modified to make up a small amount of headspace if needed. Sorry, but I have no advice for the rail mods. Merry Christmas.

What was the original clambering? You have enough parts swapping going on that you may encounter some machine work to get it to fit, the accuracy of all the parts us only a guess.
