So, in the last two weeks two people whose opinions I respect have told me that RE15 eats barrels. This is relevant, as I may have a shot-out barrel in .308 after less than 2500 rounds. I've been using RE15.
One of the people that told me this generally knows what he is talking about, and the other works for a custom barrel manufacturer. We were talking about my barrel, which I'd sent back for inspection due to throat/rifling concerns, when he told me this.
Anybody got hard evidence, either way?

Re: RE15 and barrel life

Shot RL15 for years never had a barrel shoot out at 2500 rds usually replaced 6000-10000 rds when shooting 175 gr. Now that being said when shooting Palma with 155 gr at 2950 fps around 4600 rds the throat was wearing and accuracy not as tight at 800-1000 yds for that games requirements. So how had you a driving the rounds can make a difference, of course if you clean to bare metal every time you shoot can accelerate wear IMO.

My friend had a Tikka MasterSsporter, yes "had" in 308. He shot RL-15 since day one, and at 8000 rounds we conducted an accuracy test, and yes the usual ragged hole at 100 yards was the result.
