So who doesn't like the 1980's "geek comedy" Real Genius? Movie never gets old.
But while watching it for the umpteenth time, I started to wonder 'how' they did the popcorn scene in an era where CGI was just in the imaginations of a few computer wizards... And with a bit of Google-fu came upon this great article!
Not only on how they did the 'popcorn' but how they made the movie so well that it still holds up as a Cold War Classic. It's a great read! And still a great movie!
And, yes, they used real popcorn and blew up a house. As well as burning down a popcorn factory and a warehouse! Even the laser technology was 'real' it just had not been invented quite yet. (It was 'invented' a couple of years after the movie came out.)
And, yes, along with Wargames, Revenge of the Nerds and The Manhattan Project (all good geek movies)... Still love Real Genius!
