I know this has been talked about a bunch and I read a bunch of them but thought I might because the reamer that PTG suggested is a custom and takes 4.5 weeks.

looking for a good all purpose 308 reamer that I can start out with. I would like it to be setup to shoot the 175 class bullets and it has to be factory mag length.

PTG suggested 308 Tactical Finish with .343 NK and .089 FB with 1deg-30 lead angle.

Any one know of one they would have in stock that might work well for a first reamer?

Re: Reamer decisions

Give Dave a call and ask him to send you one of there 308 Bisley reamers. Per Dave, it is the same reamer they supply to the Marines and Army to chamber there sniper rifles.

Re: Reamer decisions

I seem to remember the Bisley being a little short throated so that 175's fit in a 2.8" mag length to run in the KAC's. Perhaps I'm getting it mixed up with another reamer, but I want to say it has about 0.050" of freebore.

If you're not running it in a mag length restricted gas gun I'd run the PTG Tactical or a rough equivalent with about 0.075-0.085"Freebore and a 1-30 leade angle.

Good all around setup to run 155-190's in a Rem std. mag length.

Re: Reamer decisions

The Bisley tool cut the chambers for the 2003 US Palma Team. It was ginned up as a chamber that would shoot Radway Green ammunition well enough to be competitive while staying in the rules for dimensions when being gauged/inspected.

(Radway is basically garbage 308 surplus ammo)

The chamber shoots the spiced up 155's well enough. My personal palma gun has this chamber.

I own prolly more 308 reamers than anyone because I build quite a few palma guns (both international and the "Americanized" stuff).

If it were me id stick with Davids recommendation for the 308 sniper/Tac. I chamber lots of guns with this tooland it works really well.

Remember, the 308 win is like the sb chevy. It just works. It always works.

Good luck with your build
