Ok thinking about getting a better barrel for my savage

If I do a barrel in saami specs how will it act while shooting 115 dtacs?

Also for a 7mmRM how will a saami spec reamer do for the longer 180 bergers.

Am I going to greatly benefit from a reamer specifically for the 115 dtacs or 180 bergers?

In general, getting the reamer specifically cut for the bullet/case combination that you want to use will reap benefits.

Assuming that you're using a 243 with the 115's you will want something with about 0.080" of freebore for the 115 DTAC if memory serves right.

For the 7mm RM and 180 Bergers I think you'll be looking in the 0.240" Freebore range.

I personally like the 1*-2* leade angle range, most of the reamers that I own are 1*30' leades.

well see if i get a savage prefit barrel then I will only get saami spec unless i want to pay extra for that type of reamer.

Will I shoot bugholes and better tactical scores if I do the extra work for the reamers or am I wasting my time is basically what im after.

Re: Reamer questions *)(*(^%%&^*()* for a savage!!

The reputation for the Savage Pre-fit barrels from SavageShooterSupply are very good. There are potential benefits from them but Savage rifles tend to be forgiving and I'm assuming from what you're saying that you'll be handloading, which in my experience, has been easy to find extremely good loads for the Savages that I've worked on and my personal rifles.

For tactical scores the trigger nut is far more important than trying to eek the last 2% from any given chambering. I know a guy that with a bone stock 5R in 308 has shot circles around some other very accomplished shooters using more "optimal" calibers.

Thats kind of the answer I was looking for. Not after the last 2% just wanting to make sure I wasnt going to be leaving 50% on the table sort of speak.
