Been lurking here a while and finally joined last week.

I have a 300 weatherby vanguard I want to convert to a 7mm. I am looking to go 1000+ yards. Which barrel manufacturer's should I be looking at? Barrel Length?

Recommendations on new stocks?

I am new at this so any and all advise will be appreciated. Im looking to build a decent entry level rig.

Thanks

300 Weatherby is more than capable at 1k.
For barrels,Bartlein,Hart,Krieger,Broughton,Brux,Benchmark,Lilja.
Barrel length,28-30 in a HV contour.
Don't forget that the 300 Weatherby imp.held many 1000 yard records for a longtime...and it is still holding its own with the best out there.

1000+ ...i plan on going over 1500 yards in the future.

I have a couple 300's and want to try my hand at distance shooting and after some research decided on the 7mm round. So instead of buying another rifle I decided to re-barrel my weatherby.

Thank you for the replies so far.

86MCCS, even past 1k
A well built 300 Weatherby with a 28-to 30 tube on a Berger 210vld,215hybrid or 230hybrid will be hard to beat, all things being of the same case capacity and cartridge. even a 7mm.

Of course, this may open up a whole new discussion with the 7mm guys .
and by the way i have a 7mm mag Imp. myself as well

Start with a good foundation...The Action. See if you can find someone to true it up or at least square the face and lap the lugs "all of them". Then find a Recoil lug that will work with your action then find a barrel. You can contact BugHoles here on the Hide in the Option&Acceries section and he will have a barrel to you in a week. I just ordered a RockCreek Sunday and its said to deliver Tomorrow. If you want a 7mm go with a 7mm. Having something different is good.

Good Luck!!
