I was wondering if it was possible to rebarrel a m14 to say a 6.5mm barrel and have a m14 that shoots a 6.5 creedmore or .260 remington.

Sure; Springfield at one time sold .243 barrels for their M1As. I think you'd have the best luck rebarreling it for .260 Rem, strictly because of the magazines.

Aint possible as far as I can tell. I tried to find somebody that makes m14 barrels ( Kreiger or Douglas ) to run one in 6.5 and nobody was willing to. If you could find somebody to make the barrel, I'm sure you would have to run an adjustable gas plug. Don't get your hopes up. The reason you don't see an M14 in 260 is because nobody can get a barrel, not because nobody has thought of it before.

Just because it hasn't been done doesn't mean it cant be done. More likely it means that its not worth the effort and or cost to do it.
Most likely you would be on your own in doing it and trying to get the pressure curve right so that you dont bend or break an operating rod or any other parts on it. I personally dont think it would be worth the effort or cost it would take to do the research/ fabrication in order to make it work or the potetial hazards that could go with.
I think if you have your heart set on a semi-auto 6.5 cal you would be better served by an Ar-10 or LR-308 type platform. Someone else has already done the work of what it needs to make it work then.

Accuracy Speaks in AZ use to to build 6.5-08s years ago. I don't know if they still build them or not.

If you are thinking of doing it i'm sure others are/have thought of it. Just a thought... Maybe contact Krieger of another barrel manufacturer and see about possibly doing a group buy on the M14 barrels. If enough people want to get it done may make it worth while to them to make it.

I'm quite confident it could be done on a one-off basis. Whether or not it could be done <span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="font-style: italic">economically</span></span> is another matter entirely.
I know an excellent M14 gunsmith who can more than likely help you out if you're serious about this. He's nationally known and does outstanding work. PM me if you're interested and I'll sound him out on the subject in the meantime.

Sorry to mislead you guys, i don't have a m14 i was just wondering if it could be done. Thought just crossed my mind. I'm just throwing ideas out that i might look into in the future say the next 3 years when im old enough to aquire a silencer. If i were to get one though, i would like to have it in a different caliber than .308, cause hell i have a .308 set up for long range/tactical use. And the idea of a 6.5 m14 intrigues me. Thanks for the info though guys, ill make sure to bookmark it when i need the info.

yes it can be done, it will be expensive, but that's par for the course with m14's.
IF you do this, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE start with a forged reciever, like an LRB m25... not a garbage SA. Even a chinese polytech is better because it is forged, you just need to swap out to a TRW bolt if you go that route.

D@mn sounds like the m14 is rather complicated. By SA you mean springfield armory right? The only reason i was concerned about a changing it to 6.5 would be because i think it would be awesome and i have a .308 long range build. I'm rebarreling it next summer but i've already got the brass and bullets etc. so i wont be rebarrelling to a 6.5. I just wouldn't want 2 .308s for tactical precision shooting.

We sure do. I just finished a 260rem schneider barrel for an LRB m25 build.
