Gunsmithing Rebarreling an action?

For all knowledgeable......If I wanted to take a Remington 700 Long action in 30.06 could I rebarrel it with a .308 barrel and have a no worries Long action Remington 700 in .308????

I'm looking to have a rifle built but since most new 700 Remingtons have actions in short they won't fit my needs.

This rifle will be built on a synthetic stock....not sure that makes a difference but....

Yes it will work just fine, as would any 700 LA with a 30-06 bolt face (25-06,270, 280 etc).
Just don't dump a good 06' bbl to swap to 308. 99% of us can't shoot good enough to realize the theoretical accuracy advantage of the 308 over the 06'.
You may have to put in a magazine block and 308 follower and spring if you have issues with the 308 "popping up" in the longer magazine.
The main reason to do it, is for single loading where you long throat the 308 barrel so you can shoot super long heavy VLDs, seated way out (beyond normal max 308 OAL), thus preserving the 308 case's powder capacity.

You can put a 308 barrel on a long action 700 with a standard bolt face with no problem, I've done it several times. Your post is a bit confusing though "most new 700 Remingtons have actions in short they won't fit my needs." makes it sound like the 308 is a long action. It's a short action cartridge.
