I recently purchased a 300 win mag Pierce LA with Broughton heavy varmint profile barreled action and separately purchased a McMillan A5 stock that was pillar bedded to another action. I got both in this week and the action drops right in. However, before tightening the action screws I can rock/slide the action maybe 1/8" back and forth in the stock. Of course once the screws are torqued to 65in/lbs it is rock solid. The question is should I have the stock rebedded to the new action? How much free play should the action have in a properly bedded stock when the action screws are not tightened? All inputs appreciated.

Depends if the lug makes contact where the screws line up.

Probably should consider rebedding but, you could shoot it first and see how it does.
