Crazy idea I know, but I have a nice thumb hole Savage that I’m not crazy about. It’s not a tack driver like everyone else has and the ammo cost more then .223. It’s a stainless heavy barrel, I could get it threaded at the same time. Who does this type of work? Or maybe I should just sell it and get a Tikka in .22.

Have you looked at the price of reboring a barrel?
It's not for the faint of heart.
Most people that use reboring services are in the process of restoring old rifles.

You could just buy a takeoff barrel and swap it out, but your too long magazine won't work properly. And, you could wind up with extraction problems.

In the end you'll having a Frankenstein and we all remember how that turned out.

I say sell it and buy what you're really wanting.
