Gunsmithing Recessed crown

Re: Recessed crown

Anything is possible if try hard enough. By hand is not the easiest or the best, but if you don't have access to a lathe just do the best you can.

Check Brownells. I'm sure they sell some kind of recessed hand crowning tool.

Re: Recessed crown

Thanks RAD,I looked on Brownell's couldn't find anything specifically related to recessed crowns.

I should have asked the more appropiate question, has anyone done this and if so what tools would be needed?

Re: Recessed crown

Be advbised that the crown is the last and possibly the most precious place that you bullet comes in contact with before it takes flight. I would not do it by hand. We do what we call our "F" class crown which gives the protection of a recessed crown with the excellent gas dispersion of a typical target or 11 degree crown.
