Any one see any problem with opening up a 6.5CM to 260 Rem ? Please stay calm, this is not about which one is the best. I have an opportunity to purchase a 6.5 CM at a great price. I have two 260 Rem's & don't want to have a different chambering with a different set of dies & brass. I want to stay with all like calibers. Your thoughts.

260
Neck diameter.2969 in (7.54 mm)
Shoulder diameter.4539 in (11.53 mm)
Base diameter.4705 in (11.95 mm)
Rim diameter.4728 in (12.01 mm)
Rim thickness.0539 in (1.37 mm)
Case length2.035 in (51.7 mm)
6.5 CM
Neck diameter.2950 in (7.49 mm)
Shoulder diameter.4620 in (11.73 mm)
Base diameter.4703 in (11.95 mm)
Rim diameter.4730 in (12.01 mm)
Rim thickness.054 in (1.4 mm)
Case length1.920 in (48.8 mm)
Notice how the 6.5CM has a wider Shoulder, so you will have to cut some off the chamber so when you ream out the 260 you do not end up with a larger case diameter. You will probably lose about 1" of barrel but as you can see it will involve more steps.

Had a similar issue with shooters wanting to rechamber 7BR to 7-08. BR Brass was only available in .308 sized cases and the forming dies were eyewatering expensive. Further, it was a general PITA to get it done. For many it was just not worth it.

The solution was to rechamber. However, cleaning up the chamber from rounds that are nearly straight cased to rounds that have a tapered case, is a chore at best. The solution was to utilize a wildcat, the 7mm International. (Which was a 300 Savage necked to 7mm, also known as 7mmIHMSA).

Rechambering 6.5 CM to 260 is going to have the same issues. New barrel might be easier.

What is the rifle? I may have a .260 barrel to trade ya.

Thank you for the offer. The rifle , a Savage is owned by a local. I haven't bought it yet , just considering it. Had it been a 260 I would have bought it My thought now is to just buy a new Savage stainless XP Storm 260 with 24" Bbl. About $620 from Buds Gun Shop. The 24" Bbl appeals much more to me. With spending the extra money to re chamber makes me think buying new, out right, is the way to go.
