Who here has installed a Holland recoil lug on a 700 in an AICS stock? The inner diameter of the lug is meant to fit over the remington 700 thread profile, correct? So when purchasing a lug as long as its made for your rifle model, R700 or whatever, it fits over the threads on the barrel.

The only FIT issues you need to be concerned with are the width of the recoil lug recess and its depth, right? I have a newer AICS 1.5 with a .250 wide lug recess so I'm thinkin' a .250 lug might, at most, need a little lap work when I have my new barrel installed. I've already read a number of threads about people trying to use bigger lugs on the AICS and the general consensus seems to be that any mods to the stock void the warranty, which I'd rather not do.

So if the lug is too long, I'll have the lug milled shorter, or lapped a bit if its a real tight fight in the stock. Only question I have before purchasing is the inner diameter of the lug, it doesn't need to fit over the outer diameter of the barrel, just the outer diameter of the R700 receiver threads, yes?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rich

    Re: Recoil Lug Question

Yup new lug only needs to fit over the outer diameter of the threads. And as long as your replacing the barrel go for it. If you are trying to put a larger lug on a factory barrel headspace will be affected. A .250 lug should fit and if its too long your smith should either be able to mill it or surface grind it down. Should only require a few thousands of fitting.

    Re: Recoil Lug Question

If you action is trued, which I don't understand putting an aftermarket lug on if not... then you may need to have the recoil lug inner diameter turn out a little bit. Anyone doing the machine work to start with should have no problem enlarging the lug. Other than that, I would modify the lug height before modifying the chassis, but I would modify the chassis for lug thickness before a thinner lug. I hope that all makes sense, if not I can clarify.

It does make sense, thanks for the answers guys! I have a Rock Creek 5R 1:10 barrel I'm going to have installed, figured I would get the action trued and a new lug fitted and installed at the same time.
