Recoil pad on Mcmillan A5

I would like to know if anyone has replaced their recoil pad to lesson recoil? I am shooting a 300WSM, without the brake I can shoot/ tolerate 50 rounds but as the day progresses it just beats you up. I would like to shoot this rifle at a class but, I'm a little apprehensive about sitting behind the rifle for 400 rounds over three days.

Has anyone replaced their recoil pad on their A5? I see on McMillans website they have a Decelerator and a Limbsaver listed as options. However, in the FAQ the Limbsaver cannot be used on the A5 since the bolt spacing would interfere with the internal air chamber?

Kind regards,
Jared

I have about a 1/2" longer length of pull so I just put on a Limb Saver slip-on pad over the existing. If you have a standard LOP, you can get a grind-to-fit to replace the existing. Sometimes you have to drill new holes but it's not that hard if you a the least bit handy.

Jarad,
You can always put a limbsaver pad on an A-5, you just cannot use one with the spacer system or our 2-way or 3-way buttplate systems. These are all machined for the Pachmyer hole spacing and the Limbsaver pads have a different hole spacing.

Best solution? Install a brake or suppressor.

The slip-on Limbsaver is a quick fix and works fair, but get one that fits tight so it won't slip around. The problem using a slip-on on an A5 is the stock toe is flat, not pointed.

The gun does have a brake installed. However, I cannot use it during certain matches because of disruption of other shooters.

I'll look into a slip on pad. Thanks for the replies.

I have an A3 and two A3-5 stocks. All have 3 way adj buttplates. They came with 1/2" rubber buttpads. I ordered a 1" cushioned pad from Mcmillin for 2 of them. They fit perfectly and helped with felt recoil.
