Im looking to purchase some 308 bullets to shoot paper with out of my Stevens 200. I see that Midway has the 110gr. VMAX on sale for right around $22/100. Any other thoughts with links to good prices on paper punching bullets? Thanks

Re: Recommend me some 308 bullets

Buy some 178 Amax online. Best bang for buck projectile you can buy right now. If you are willing to experiment with loads a bit, the 208 amax has a higher BC than the 6.5 caliber rounds and is supersonic to 1200 yards at sea level if you can launch it at 2400 fps, and that's not hard to do with modern powder. Then you get the best of both worlds. Wind cheater ballistics with 308 barrel wear.

Re: Recommend me some 308 bullets

I wish I could help you with suggestions on light bullets, but I'm more of a long-range shooter, and I like the heavy stuff with high BCs.

Your 1-10" twist barrel will like heavy stuff too. I know you only have access to 200 yards, but establishing a long-range load now eliminates the need in the future. If that makes sense, I'd recommend the 175g Sierra Match King or the 178g Hornady HPBT.

If you're rather shoot the light and fast stuff, I'm sure someone will be along shortly with recommendations.

Good luck

Re: Recommend me some 308 bullets

100-200 yd is much need to cheat wind if your only punching paper for fun I'd just grab cheap stuff and work up a load for it that's accurate enough for your liking and save your cash for when you wanna get into longer ranges

Re: Recommend me some 308 bullets

I'd recommend some Hornady flat base bullets for "cheap and accurate" out to about 350-400 yards. I've gotten bragging sized groups from the Interlock Spire Points with most every rifle I've shot them through. They range from 110 grain to 180 grain, and as an added bonus they perform fine on deer-size game.

Interesting, I think I will try some Hornaday 178 BTHP's. nice suggestion.

Took them out to 1000 yards here the other day and they do pretty good compared to the 175 SMK's that I used to use. They were fairly easy to hold 1MOA or better.
