I've been looking for home camera systems. I searched here and found nothing recent. Does any have a system they like or would never buy again?

I live in a crazy rural area and don't have home wifi. I'm looking for a 4 camera system with an included hard drive. I'm not interested in an alarm system with monitoring fees. High definition video, ease of use and ease of copying files are the big issues I'm concerned with.

    Thanx

I have been thinking of doing the same thing. Been doing some reading and the Arlo system looks pretty good, runs on a battery, etc. You just set up a wifi router for your house and it should be cool.

That looks like an interesting option but I don't think it will work for me. If I read it correctly, it will only record to a cloud over a wifi connection. I don't have wifi or constant internet at home. My home internet is strictly with my cellphone. That's part of what's making it tough for me. Thanx

I just built a house and had the electricians run all the wiring for the cameras. I was able to install the cameras, nvr, and everything else. It was pretty much a plug and play setup. Easy to do. They have great support and can answer any questions you might have. heh

    I use this one,

I know you said no wifi... but the options there if you ever want to change or add it. I can take snap shots and record watch and zoom inon my phone.on my phone... not the cloud. its easy to set up and has great playback abilities. I had a car broken into and I was in the middle of a swamp in Georgia and was able to send a 2 minute video and 43 pictures to the detective working the case it was thru wifi but still pretty wicked. This system should have over 1full year of recording on 16 cameras before it over rights. If you use 8 cameras then your good for a looong time.

I'd maybe keep an eye on woot.com, they periodically run home surveillance systems for great prices. A system that meets your needs is likely to pop up.

I think what you are looking for (just as I am) is something that is NOT on the cloud. I'd think you can set up some kind of NAS system and record only on your LAN with Wifi. Have to do some research and see if there is a hack. It is probably easiest just to get a DVR system with some wired cameras for your house to keep everything that is going on within your property private.
