Recommended Ammo for DPMS lr-308l

Re: Recommended Ammo for DPMS lr-308l

The best thing you can do is is pick up a box of FGMM 175smk, FGMM 168, and anything else you might wanna try as that's really the only way to determine what your barrel likes. Typically, the Federal Gold Medal Match 175gr Sierra Match King does better than most.

mr50bmg,

Do you re-load? if so, visit Dan Newberry's website for some canned loads that will work in the vast majority of rifles. My pet load is 45gr varget and 175SMK in winchester cases.

If you are not a reloader, then be prepared to spend $$. Killshot made some good suggestions. Try Southwest ammo, USA Ammo, and HSM for factory loads that are so consistent as to be near handload quality.

Cheaper than dirt, sportsmans warehouse et al are also good place to look for factory ammo.

Cowboy1978,

Gotta disagree with you. Hogdon's CFE223 and Alliant's 2000-MR are the best powders for 308s...visit their webites and marvel at the velocities.

Additionally, they meter like water and are very temperature stable(at least 2000-MR is)...These powders have basically turned 308s into 30-06s with heavier bullets below 200grains.

Best,

I've always had great luck with Varget and any match style bullets. I have a large amount of 168gr A-Max and Hornady Match Hollow-Points that I shoot through my AP4 with great results. Can't really go wrong with that combo.
