When I called Lothar Walther the man on the phone stated that they do not recommend 416r for a .338 barrel. He said barrel life expectacy is much shorter. Is there a company someone recommends that build's a long lasting barrel for .338?

Thanks,
ML

I've used Bartlien and Krieger for 338LM and they will do you well.

I've been to Spencer's shop and he will put out a good product. I've only used a 300WM barrel from him.

LW probably doesn't offer 416R as a barrel material choice. Made plenty of 338's, probably as many or more cut rifled barrels in that particular cartridge than anyone, out of 416..there is no such thing as a long lasting barrel for that powder charge.
