Below is a picture of my 18.5” Howa 308 with a reflex suppressor. I really enjoy this compact rifle that’s still capable at 1k. Now living in the northern midwest, hunting shots can happen inside 100 yards. The low power is 4x on the scope, so I’m thinking about putting a red dot on it for inside 100 yards snap shot on a deer and or black bear.
What is the consensus on mounting at 12 vs offset for the red dot? The offset seems better because height over bore would be lower and you just simply rotate the gun and aim. 12 o’clock seems like you have to poke your head up and not as natural. This is just an opinion based on what I see people doing, but I have not tried it myself.
The cons to offset mount is I could see that being potentially a snagging factor for sticks going through brush or something like that.
For those of you that have red dots on your bolt guns, what are your thoughts?
