Looking at purchasing 2 Red Dot scopes one will be on an AR platform the other will be on an 870 used for calling predators.

I am interested in the Leupold Prismatic and the Vortex Strikefire the prices are not the issue. The Vortex seems to fit the bill. Just intimadated by the low price tag. Sounds strange maybe, I can not afford a cheap scope if that makes sense. I use the cry once idea. Any body coment on either one, mostly the Strikefire.

Re: Red Dots

blueprinted... if a price is not a issue and u want a trouble free reddot, why not look at aimpoint. i bought one with a quick release from larue and mounted it on my benelli m4. dude.. its awsome on there and the quality is top notch. maybe im wrong but i dont think u can by a better red dot then aimpoint. the guys at larue gave me a really great price for the combo and there advice was great too. i have ur same idea... buy once and only cry once. the same reddot works great on a ar as well. hope this help ya.

Re: Red Dots

I've used Aimpoint sights since they first came out, back in the early 1980's. Never had an issue.

For an AR, the Aimpoint, EoTech, or any of the offerings from Trijicon work great and have proven track records.

On an 870, I prefer something smaller and would suggest one of the following: Aimpoint Micro T-1, Docter Optic, JPoint, or the Trijicon mini red dot sight.

Re: Red Dots

On the ARs I am a huge Aimpoint fan. I run them on most of my ARs.

I like the KAC mounts a lot. They use a nylon washer that prevents over torquing and the mounts do return to zero very well.

This particular rifle is a primary home defense weapon so I ditched the flip-up covers from the optic.

I've tried EOTechs and they are nice too. But I prefer Aimpoint for better battery life, I prefer the Aimpoint dial instead of the EOTech buttons, reticle of the EOTech is too "busy" and distracting to me, I am simply faster with an Aimpoint on my target acquisition. Plus, I've seen more EOTechs go down under hard use than Aimpoints.

Not sure what to tell you on the shotgun. I'm not big into shotties so don't have a lot of experience.

Re: Red Dots

The Leupold Prismatic is not a very ideal CQB scope, but it'd be perfect for a shotgun for shooting critters. It's not a red dot. It's a 1x scope. There is eye relief and associated issues, and you have to be right behind it just right to use it, unlike the EOTechs, Aimpoints, Trijicons, Zeiss, and the like where you can basically be in the general ballpark of being behind the optic.
