Hey everyone,

I am trying to find a good powder measure to mount on my Dillon 550 that will throw fairly consitant loads for .223 and .308. I am using IMR 4895 powder and a few other extruded powders, and the dillon powder thrower is making a huge mess and is highly variable.

These are not going to be highly precise rounds, so as long as the thrower stays within a .2 grain standard deviation I will be happy. For my long range rounds I always use a scale.

I am thinking of mounting a Redding 3BR on my Dillon 550 to accomplish this. I have heard rave reviews about it. Have any of you done this? What all would I need in order to mount it? Would the shell casing engage the thrower like in the dillon measure, or would I have to operate the hande independently? Thanks for the help!!!

From what I understand, you can mount the Redding powder measure in a 550 with a powder measure adapter (product # H33-20029 for $19.95). However, you might want to note that I recently polished the inside of my 550 powder throw, and I have been getting much tighter variance than before with Varget and RE15. The most I have seen since is about 0.3 gr, as opposed to almost a grain before I polished it. It might be worth your while to give it a try before you spring to buy another powder measure.

The Hornady measure with its attendant case-actuation mechanism is the favored replacement. Redding measures, with the exception of the 10X pistol measure, have their arms mounted vertically and don't adapt well.
