I have the Redding bushing die set for my 308 and really like it and am considering purchasing a set for my .223 RRA varmint AR which will be here soon.

Would these dies be any better than standard Rcbs dies for 223 in ar platform?

What bushing is needed for using Winchester brass?

Thanks for any help,

Alan

I've been using the 0.245 bushing with Winchester brass, for around 0.002" neck tension. The Redding dies are great and have worked very well and have given me consistent numbers. You may ant to buy a couple of bushings and play with the neck tension yourself. Some people seem to prefer more neck tension with a semi-auto, but I've never had any issues so far. Good luck.

I'm gonna order a set of the Redding bushing dies for my AR. I feel they are worth the extra $$. Now if I can get a few more opinions on bushing size, I will be set

+1 on Winchester's comment. Seat a bullet in the new brass, if you have another .223 die set, measure the OD of the new with the bullet seated, and subtract 0.002"-0.003".

I use .245" bushing.
I have ~20k pieces of 223 brass, ~ every headstamp know to man, and I use .224" bullets, like the ones you can buy.

The Forster FL sizer die sent back to the factory and honed out to .245", will "go" with a .245" pin gauge.

The .245" bushing will "no-go" with a .245" pin gauge.

So if you send the FL die back to Forster with $10, it should be ordered as .244".

=======================

The Redding FL "S" die works better than the RCBS die.

The Forster honed neck die works better than Redding FL "S" die.

The Lee Collet die works better than the Forster die.
