Redding Instant Indicator Comparator with Dial

Redding Instant Indicator Comparator with Dial

I use mine to verify seating depth after seating the bullet. It's a handy tool.

I suggest getting it without an indicator and buying a quality indicator. Mitutoyo, Starrett and Brown & Sharpe are good brands. I bought several on eBay recently for little money.

I have 4 of them, and they are really great. Like the guy above me, I use a T-7. It is so easy to size and check the shoulder, or seat and check length with a simple turn of the turret. It also measures bullets and case length, but I don't use it for those.

Is it time consuming to change the setup from the HS to bullet depth measurements?

Not sure what you mean by HS. But if you are talking about shoulder length and seating depth, you actually don't need to make any adjustments at all, depending on the caliber. For 223, you need to remove the bushing out of the sleeve. For 308, 338, 300wm, and other calibers that are of similar length, both shoulder and seating depth can be measured with the bushing in the sleeve.

I ordered a second one to speed up my loading process. One after shoulder bump and one after seating to check length to ogive. It works really well on a T-7!

You don't need 2 of them for one caliber. Leave the bushing in, unless you are using it for a caliber with a short sleeve.

I understand. It was an impulse buy. Once I thought more about it I realized I just needed to know the indicator value for both measurements. Late night shopping online did me in on this one.

So it doesnt need to be disassembled to change between checking bullet depth and shoulder bump measurements? I'm asking because I can visualize how they operate internally.

If the sleeve is long enough that the case mouth isn't impeded by the bushing, then you can just leave the bushing in there. If there is not enough room for the bushing and the case mouth, then you have to take it our for shoulder measurements.

I just bought one and love it! Seems to give a much more finite and repeatable measurement than any other measuring methods I've used in the past. One question: Can one indicator be bought, and other calibers be measured by swapping out the internals? Just trying to save money.....

As far as I know, redding doesn't sell just the internal sleeve. Everything comes as a kit. You can get the die without the dial though.
