No one remembers or knows that history.

In my time it was ludicrous to think that just because the photo department erased Beria from the negative of the photo his historical erasure was so.

We laughed at that "modification" of historical record.

George Orwell compiled a tidy fortune writing books he probably thought the lesson was being preached to a common choir.

I think he probably intended his books to be a sobering warning.
I doubt he had any idea that they would be happily followed as instruction manuals by people calling themselves "Democrats" or "Liberals".
