gunnison co.
I have read a lot about the powders of choice for a 7mm 08 and the general consensus is that h 4350, varget, and r 17 are the preferred powders for the heavy bullets (162-168). being that r 15 has a burn rate almost identical to varget how would it do with the 7mm 08 and heavies? any experiences?

Sierra lists RL15 up to 175gr and Nosler up to 160gr. I'm getting ready to play with some loads using 160gr hpbt game kings and 168gr match kings and RL15.

I just did some load development today and loader 140 vld with 33.7 grains of r15 with the best results. and a 168 smk with 40 grains of r15 with best results. not sure how fast yet tho.

Load 41grs 2000MR with 162, RE15 is too fast for the heavier stuff, I use 39gr RE15 with 150MKs, that works very well.

If you want more speed try CFE, 2000MR or RE17. I worked up a load with RE17 under 154SSTs ending up with 46.5grs being the most accurate, velocity should be about 2750 according to Hornadys manual.

Over the years I have tried several different powders in my Model 7 7mm08. Staying with two bullets, 130 Speer BTSP and Nosler 140 BT, I finally landed on Vit 140. It gives me best results in my rifle for both accuracy and velocity. Varget RE15 and N140 are stacked with each other on the burn rate chart. My load for comps with the GAP barreled AI is 168 SMK with an undisclosed dose of H4350. This is where I think Varget/RE15 and N140 would not satisfy the need for speed.

How did load development go with power pro. I have allot of it on hand and a 7-08 on the way.

I only worked with 2000MR with my buddies 708 and 154 SPs. Accuracy was pretty good even though his Weatherby's trigger was not tuned down, way too heavy for me.

how fast could do you think 140 g bullets would fly safely? I know all guns are different but a rough estimate? I know they will go a lot faster than what my reloading manuel says. . .
