I'm having a .260 Rem built, and have been playing around with QuickLoad looking for possible loads.

Using Quickload, it looks like Reloader 25 would give me near 2800 fps on a 140 gr VLD with 52,600 max pressure.

Has anyone tried Reloader 25 in the .260 Rem?

I have not, but I use RL-17 to get a 140 hybrid to 2800 FPS out of my 22" Bartlein 1 in 8. No pressure at all either.

It's a slow burning magnum powder, probably too slow, I'd guess.

    What about, RL-17, RL-19 and RL-22?

You can get just about any powder to work in any cartridge, if you start low enough, load a lot and don't mind risking a weapon here, or there.

Just because it works and goes bang, doesn't mean it'll work well.

Good point. I guess I shouldn't believe what Quickload might say. They certainly have plenty of warnings to point out a load may not work well. It's probably better to start with a powder most everyone else is using.

From my poking around on the site, it sounds like most people are using H4831, H4350, or RL-17.

I loaded up 650+ rounds for my buddy's Surgeon/Rock/AICS/Jewell a few years back and I had 3# of AA 4350 on hand and we used that for most of the batch.

It's very close to H-4350, but it's a longer stick, so metering ain't the greatest in a typical measure. Still, AA powders are popular and usually a bit cheaper.

If you've got access to it and it's cheaper and you hand weigh, or use an auto powder dispenser, it works fine.

The other three you mention are all worth a shot.

Many powders will work just fine, and give moderate to satisfactory performance. After doing a rather extensive search of the loads that gives the most people, the best performance, the powder that came out on top for the 260 Remington was H4350. Many other powders performed NEARLY as well, but H4350 seemed to give best velocity, with a little lower pressure.

Primers didn't seem to be a major factor, as long as you use something like match, bench rest, or similar quality primers.

When cases are properly prepared, most seem to do a really good job. Lapua seems to last longest (no surprise there), but much cheaper cases can give just as good of accuracy at lower cost if they are prepared properly. To figure out if Lapua is worth the extra money, you would need to amortize out if Lapua lasts twice as long compared to other brass costing half the price.

I ended up using Winchester 7mm-08 cases necked down to 6.5. They were less than half the cost of Lapua, and so far, I only have 3-4 loadings on the cases, with no primer pocket loosening yet.

As you probably know, each rifle has is it's own idiosyncrasies, and preferences, so ultimately, you will probably end up doing experimentation regardless of the info you get off the internet.

    Re: Reloader-25 for .260 Rem?

How does H4350 work in a 260 ar10? Got a Dpms 260 I am about to scope up and start loading. I have about 500 once fired Rem Brass to use. Figure I will save the Lapua brass for the 260 ackley improved I have my gunsmith building. Don't want to loose it in the grass or dirt from a gas gun.
