With a stock Remington 700 VLS in 308 and 43.5 grains of Reloader15 with 175smk seated to 2.800 I'm getting about 2550 fps. Is that slow? I'm at 750 ft elevation, 90 degrees.

It looks like other people are getting more velocity. I'm getting close to 1/2 inch at 100. If I go hotter I lose accuracy. Looks like my gun like 2500-2570 fps.

Then your good to go. mine likes 44.5 of RE15 in a 24 in 5R I get right at 2700 Fps, with a 44.3 charge with LR pull down surplus powder I get 2800, same as M118LR. Good groups and consistant accuracy are better than velocity.

Re: Reloader15 and 175smk

Agreed... Bullets that go fast in an unintended direction are worthless, as far as I'm concerned.

I don't blame you for wanting more velocity, but I'm pretty sure you'll still be able to make it to 1000 yards with 2500fps. My 180SMK load at 2525fps took 41 MOA to hit 1000, but did so reliably. The BC of the 175 and 180 is ALMOST the same.

FWIW, that is exactly what we use, here:

I have the same 700 VLS with the barrel cut to 20". I use 46.3gr of RL-15 under a 178 A-Max in Winchester cases with Wolf LRM primers at 2.93" OAL. They shoot ~.75 MOA if I do my part right and take 10.3 mils to 1K at 1000asl. They are running right around 2740fps.

Re: Reloader15 and 175smk

I have VLS 26" 1:12 also. Best numbers came out at 2637 fps with new Winchester brass and 45.6g RL-15. Worked up to it. I had higher velocity by about 50-60 fps with lesser powder charge but accuracy, ES and SD were junk. I have tested in .1 grain increments up to 45.9 and the 45.6g load falls right where my rifle likes it. I do see a little bit of a tight bolt when the density altitude and temp get high. I've started at 500 ft DA and 75 Degrees and by 2 pm the DA went to 2800 ft and temp in the 90's. In the heat of the day and 100 or so rounds down range it does get tighter. I need to fine tune some for hot weather.

Re: Reloader15 and 175smk

I shoot 43.5gr of RL-15 under a 175 SMK in Lapua brass and it shoots great, I have noticed that it seems to shoot better with CCI BR-2s in my Sako than Fed 210Ms. My rifle seems to show pressure with the same load though when it gets above 85 degrees or so.
