Reloading 416 Barrett - Neck Turner recomendations

I am having an issue with some 416 Barrett Brass in that it wont chamber. Here is a brief rundown of the story so far..

Originally I had a McMillan in 416 Barrett and purchased 300 pieces of brass with it, projectiles etc.
Now I never actually fired the McMillan and have sold it and purchased a DTA HTI in 416 Barrett. Long story so don't ask

The McMillan had Viersco dies with it and I had about 100 Rounds loaded all chambered with no issues in the McMillan.
BTW Brass is Bertram Brass with Rocky Mountain 416 RBTAT projectiles.

Now the Rounds loaded for the McMillan wont chamber in the DTA. The Bolt wont push forward enough to close.

As the dies were custom dies for the McMillan, I found a set of Lee dies in 416 Barrett and they resize the brass and the brass chambers fine in the DTA now. For what its worth, the un-sized new Bertram Brass that I had left over wont chamber without running through the Lee Dies.

So the Brass itself chambers perfectly, bolt closes and no issues.

But when I seat a projectile the round will no longer chamber. It is the neck that expands too much once the projectile is seated to chamber in the DTA now. Its not the seating depth, but it is the projectile expanding the neck enough that the round wont chamber. I understand that the DTA has a 'Match' chamber and can only assume it is a lot tighter than the McMillan.

So I am lead to the conclusion that I need to neck turn the brass. Does anyone know of or can recommend a Neck Turner for the 416 Barrett?

Given that there is around $3000.00 in that brass alone I am reluctant to ditch it and get new brass, especially as that would mean I need to import it (I am Is Australia) and that is a whole new world of hurt anyway dealing with the local customs/authorities who will do anything they can to stop me importing a legal item.

Any recommendations?

Neck turner for the 416 Barrett.
Contact John Perkins and i believe he can help you out.
It's not exactly a caliber that's sol in high volumes.

Get the 21 st century shooting 50 cal neck turning lathe, and a cutter of the appropriate angle for the shoulder and you should be close.
It comes with the Large expander die that will fit.

Your biggest problem will be finding Turning arbors and Expander mandrels that will work.
I would try to contact him and hear if you could get some custom made, as a one off deal, don't expect it to be cheap though.
Can't guarantee it goes but the best equipment you cna get i highly suspect.
And turning without arbors and mandrels is a bad idea IMHO.

RCBS makes a 41 caliber pilot for they're neck turner that will work too, just need another case holder that works for the BMG case and you should be good to go in a cheaper way, it will not get you the same results though.
Not using an expander will not get you consistent neck thickness or good results.
But it might save you from buying new brass.

A forster 50 BMG trimmer hand crancked type will also work, with the fitting .400 neck reamer to inside ream the neck if desirable.

You could also try the Barrett forums as i am sure someone has had similar trouble before.

Thanks for that..I have emailed 21st century to see what they say. I am hoping they can come up with something and happy to buy the lathe and mandrel if it will work.

As a test I sacrificed a piece of brass, created a dummy round and linished the neck down about a tenth with wet and dry and it chambers fine..so Its definitely the neck..I am wondering if a neck reamer for the brass may be the other option?

The problem is with the brass and the Bertram brass is apparentky made to slightly different specs than the barret brass, and as far as I have been able to see, the problems don't occur with that so I am also chasing some Barrett brass as a test. I have to say looking at

There is one company in Australia that seems to make 416 ammunition and brass but so far they have not responded to any emails and they have no contact number..so that is looking like a dead end.

Just well I got the 50bmg barrell kit with it as at least I will be able to use the rifle this weekend..
