I was wondering if you guys know of any good instructional books for reloading (Reloading for Dummies) ? I was wanting to do my homework and learn alot about it before I go out and buy all the crap to do it. I also have some friends that can show me the ins and outs- just wanting to learn- I will be reloading .308 and .223/5.56 Thanks

90-fxr your post is a breath of fresh air. Get a current Lyman manual and read the technical portion. I got my start being mentored by a neighbor many years ago in my early teens. Absolutely the best learning is hands on with an experienced teacher watching over your shoulder. I never had any books on reloading besides numerous manuals and what I could glean from various gun rags and off the rack publications. Stick with the basics and don't try to get too technical too quick. Most folks want to run before they crawl, resist the temptation.

Yeah. Lee, Lyman, Hornady manuals have good loading data plus well written beginner instructions and excellant illustrations.

The ABC's Of Reloading: The Definitive Guide For Novice To Expert by Bill Chevalier (Jun 11, 2008)

Re: Reloading Books for Beginners

Richard Lee puts out a very good book that explains everything from A to Z. He really doesn't get into the precision reloading side of things, but for $12 you can't beat the price.

Lyman also has a good manual.

Re: Reloading Books for Beginners

The ABC's of reloading is definitely a good read. Read it at least 3 times and understand what you are doing every step of the way and why.

Then you can read Glen Zediker's book "Handloading for Competition." The stickied threads above are very good.

I would develop a plan including what steps you plan on doing and what equipment you will need. Nothing worse than starting developing your first load and then realizing you are missing some vital piece of equipment.

"Then you can read Glen Zediker's book "Handloading for Competition."

IMHO, Glenn's book is okay but it's aimed at exactly what the title says. Little of it has much significance to non-competive shooters and virtually none of it has any value to a noob. That seems to make it a costly waste for people like the OP.

Re: Reloading Books for Beginners

IMHO, one should have a very good knowledge base before loading his first round. It will minimize costly or life threatening errors. But that is just me. Someone who has read and thoroughly understands ABC's should be able to grasp Zediker.

Re: Reloading Books for Beginners

Thanks guys- Sounds like I got alot of books to read- and when I do get ready to start reloading I won't be by myself. I have a buddy that knows what he is doing for sure. He's been real cool about helping me with stuff.

No problem. As RoosterShooter said Richard Lee's book is another good one. It is the one that I used when I started reloading back in college in my Uncle's basement.

Keep in mind that it can get addictive
