Im getting into reloading. I am not sure whether I will start with just the Lee Ann set I have or get a Dillon 650 but more importantly for me is ...

Where do you source your components?
What is some good reading in regards to ballistics as well as reloading? (have a year in the desert - might have well make good use of the time)

Re: Reloading Components

The Sierra manual has a lot of material on ballistics. Their website has some good stuff, too.

Components are where you find them these days. Powder Valley, Graf, Cabela's, MidWay, etc. are all sources.

Most recommend starting with a single-stage loading process.

Glen Zediker's <span style="text-decoration: underline">Handloading</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline">for</span> <span style="text-decoration: underline">Competition</span>, which is a bitch to read, is otherwise excellent.

Re: Reloading Components

thanks.. appreciate any and all info.. the guy who shoots 800yd 2 in groups with his stock barreled savage is my idol so if I can do that with my Howa.. I would be happy. LOL
But in the mean time I will read and learn from the vets..

Re: Reloading Components

Start with a single stage press untill you are confident with the processes. A lot of people seem to like the forester co-ax, it's a bit more expensive for a single stage, but nice. I started with the rockchucker kit.

I wouldn't advise jumping into it with a dillon 650, that's pretty technical, not to mention expensive initially and expensive to change calibers.

I think Winchester69 covered the majority of the big vendors for reloading components. Try Montana Gold or Rainier for bulk bullets.

Re: Reloading Components

I over the last 25 plus years went from single to Dillon and now back to single for the most accurate rounds .1 gr differance.
The dillon is great for pistol but nothing better than a single for precision work

The Kit will be good for most reloading chores and it will surely take a few years to out grow it, if ever. And, if you do want different tools later you can still count on using the basic Lee stuff for back up or dedicated uses. Meaning, no matter what you do later what you have now won't be a waste. (First thing I might change would be the scale, it's okay really but others - Redding, RCBS 505 - can be easier to use.)

+1

Other Ohaus scales are Dillon, and RCBS 502 and 10-10, all two-poise, as is the Redding. The 505 is three-poise.

Re: Reloading Components

That's pretty much what I have. I got a better scale RCBS 5-0-5 and a powder tickler. I use standard RCBS dies and I reload some good shooting stuff with it. I also got a RCBS trimmer a must if your doing rifle ammo. I got the manual trimmer but should have got the powered one. Looking to add the powered unit and a chargemaster soon.

Re: Reloading Components

Wow.. thanks for all that.. I have a few of those things in the kit I have but I saved all of this in my favorites and will be ordering a lot of them very soon.

Re: Reloading Components

I would get the Sierra manual as well, as for places to shop I will ad Midsouth and Natchez to the list thats already been given, I have got good customer service and fast shipping from them both.
