Hi all, I'm looking for a proven recipes for my new rifle, as stated, it's a Remington 700 VSSF in .223, 26" 1 in 12 barrel and I'm looking to load 35 and 40 grain V-max (22241), 45 grain Sierra (1210) and 60 grain Sierra Varminter (1375), (I've got about 1,500 heads to use up.

Any assistance will be gratefully appreciated.)

Thank you.

Do you own any reloading manuals? If not, you can go to any of the online sites that powder/bullet makers have and see what their loads are with their bullets and powders.

Every rifle is different and you just need to experiement and see what your barrel/weapon likes.

H-335, AA-2230, VV-133/130, BLC-2 and RL-10 might be good places to start for powders.

With a 1:12" twist, you'll probably want to try bullets that are 60grs and less.

My favorite 223 load is 24gr of N120 behind a 40gr Vmax. Work up from 19 or 20 as this load is near the top. This load has proven itself in several rifles(Howa, Remington, Ruger, Weatherby). The fun thing about this load is you should be able to see hits in your scope beyond 200 yards without a brake. As stated work up to this one. Most will not believe the speeds I'm getting and I don't want to be called a liar.
Forgot to add most rifles would put 5 in a dime at 100 yards. I know that won't get any trophies on this site but critters hate it. This load should get you to 500 yards easy, further with practice.

Hi Chris, I do have a reloading manual and a .223 specific reloading book, it's just I thought I might save time by asking if anyone had the same rifle as me, I don't have a lot of time as there is only 8 hours of daylight here at the moment and it does nothing but rain day after day, on top of this I have two kids to look after, the oldest of which suffers from autism, so you can understand I don't have a lot of free time.

Thank you for your reply though.

Cheers.

Alan.

I have the same rifle bedded in a McMillan--and know the 40gr Vmax prints far better than the 50gr. I haven't worked up a load, but it shoots ragged itty-bitty holes with the Fiocchi 40gr V-max factory loads. Just wish I had bought a life supply when I had the chance at $9 and some change a box.

How would Varget do with the light 40 grainers?
