I have an RCBS 505 scale that is giving me some trouble. I would like to know what those BR shooters out there on the hide are using for a scale.

I use a Lyman 1200 Digital Powder System for almost everything that I load for. Tactical, F/TR and Highpower. Works ok for me.

well, i dispence a load of powder out, place it on the scale, proceed to use trickler and when i reach the the perfect amount i move the scale arm to ensure it is the perfect amount and it varies after movement. Note: scale is never moved after calibration.

Look close at the sharp edge that the beam balances on. Make sure that there is no rust or trash on it and make sure that the v blocks that it sets in is clean and are moving freely.

+1 it sounds like crap in the agate v block or a dirty bearing. the sharp edge on the bearing can corrode after time.
also make sure you eliminate air currents or static, check the humidity in that room.
if it's still jacked up after you eliminate the above, call rcbs, they've got great CS.

I checked out the V pivit point and cleaned it. It didn't appear to be dirty, but it tested it after cleaning and it worked perfectly as it used to. I over looked something very simple.

I went to a RCBS chargemaster. It was the best money I've spent on reloading equipment in the last 20 years. Has a trickler built in if you need it but it usually measures so well and precise there is no need for a trickler or anything else. I highly reccomend it. I had trouble with mine when I bought it and RCBS sent me a new one within 3 days and paid the shipping to send the old one back. No complaints here. Just my $0.02.

You have gotten advice about cleaning, this fellow tuns 10-10 and 5-10 scales. Man they are accurate after he gets thru with them like to a single kernal, I have cross checked them with my Promethus
"Scott Parker can modify balance beam scales to enhance sensitivity and more importantly, repeatability. Scott tells us: "You can literally count kernels with these scales--after tuning, the scales typically gain a half order of magnitude in sensitivity and a full order of magnitude in repeatability. Outside of a $250+ laboratory scale, a tuned beam scale is the most accurate and precise balance you can buy. I have tuned several 10-10s. They all have turned out very sensitive, consistent and hold linearity like a dream. The sensitivity after tuning is such that one kernel of powder registers a poise beam deflection. For repeatability, I remove the pan and replace it for the zero 10 times. The zero line and the poise beam balance line must coincide for each of those 10 tries. I then set the poises to read 250.0 grains. I remove and replace the pan 10 times with the calibration weight. For repeatability, the poise beam balance line must return to that same balance point ten times. I then adjust the poises back to zero and recheck the zero. A report is generated detailing the initial inspection of the balance, the corrective actions performed and any remaining concerns. Ha - good work on fixing your scale. My 505 seemed out of balance the other night- after the powder pan was emptied and set to zero, the zero balance was off. Couldnt figure it out - then looked under the pan at the screw head on the pan holder and there were 2 tiny grains of powder in the phillips head there. Balanced perfectly once I dumped them out. These are accurate scales!
