Hello, everybody! I have Mannlicher SSG 04 cal 308 and I use bullet Sierra HPBT 168 gr and powder vihtavuori N 170. Can You advise me the COL and what is the measure of the powder? I nedd it for tarketing shooting.

Re: Reloading

N170 is not suited for the .308. It is way too slow. With a full case, you wouldn't even reach 1900 fps and only burn about 60% of the powder. Try about 44 grains of N150.

Re: Reloading

TRy some VV140 in place of the 170, I think you will be happy with it.
Every barrel is different as far as bullet seating. The only way a guy with the same gun can be close is if he has a gun that was chambered about the same time as yours, before the reamer had a chance to wear or if his was done with a new reamer yours may have been done just before the reamer was reground or tossed.

I reloaded for a buddy's new SSG-04 a couple of years back. I'd have to look at my notes, but with the 168gr SMK, I think it was 2.820"ish.

Dude, ditch the VV-170 and save it for the day when you buy a 338 Lapua Mag.

VV-140 and VV-150 are where you want to be for the 308.

It's a kick ass rifle by the way and I was jealous when he bought it.

Congrats and don't blow your big toe off.

Re: Reloading

Willley, not talking VV540, I an suggesting VV 140 a very good powder for a .308.
540 is what VV advertises as a high energy powder and 540 is advertised as similar to 140 in burning rate. I havnt used it and know of no one that has. They say you can acheive 1 to 2 hundred F.P.S. faster valocity with no increase in pressure but I dont know if thats an advantage or not as far as accuracy is concerned.
