Rem 338 LM

Re: Rem 338 LM

Just picked one up locally. Much better than I thought it would be, has the Remington 40X externally adjustable trigger. Also, it has a 5 round detachable mag with what appears to be Badger M5 bottom metal. Sorry for the poor quality pics:

I talked to a Law Enforcement Remington Dealer and he was under the impression that Remington makes them once or twice a year, but in runs of 150. From what I gathered nobody knows for sure, but I do have an e-mail from Remington themselves stating that these are still in production.

this is the new run of them ?

where and what price was yours ?

Scott, as far as I can tell the brake is not detachable but then again maybe I'm just not seeing the seam. I've heard conflicting info on that.

Got mine through a gun shop in NY, shipped out here to South Dakota. Price was $1300. More than what I wanted to pay, but at the time my only option. Still, I feel that this is a pretty good deal and can't wait to see how it shoots.

Also, I have no idea how to tell when my rifle was manufactured. I would assume this is a recent run, but have no way of verifying.

Definitely not the X-Mark Pro trigger on mine.

Yours came from the factory with a Badger M5? You got that brand new?

It appears to be Badger M5, and yes it came that way in the Remington box.

Well I ordered it from the dealer in New York, they said they had just received five of them from Remington. Then it was shipped to South Dakota, where I picked it up in the Remington box. It appears to be brand new with only slight brass showing on the bolt face from test firing (like every other new Remington I have purchased). So as far as I know, it came this way from Remington.

Brians78- 26" tube, but 2" is muzzle brake. 24" effective length. I've heard this will cost approx 100fps over the conventional 27" barrel; I'll chrono mine when I get a chance to shoot it.

Re: Rem 338 LM

USMCj- I just called the shop I ordered this from (in New York), and they confirmed it came with this bottom metal from Remington. Like I said, I cannot prove it is Badger but if you look at the pics I cannot imagine what else it is.

Re: Rem 338 LM

10-4,I have done some searching in the past hour and found that some of the past rigs (2008) appreaded to come with the HS bottom metal/ mag. The rigs from this years run look like that have Badger but I can't confirm due to poor pic quality.... Also I saw one thread where the dude was able to unscrew the brake... so it is threaded. Also it apeared to be a stainless action/ bbl underneath some (?) coating.

Anyway, mine should be delivered by thanksgiving and I will post up detailed pics.... Snipcuntpx said they have waited all year for these, only got 20 this week and 10 minutes ago they had 7 left.

Re: Rem 338 LM

brians708- I too have seen the pictures of the removed muzzle brake. I just looked at my rifle and I am still unconvinced that this one will unthread. Just do not see a seam of any kind. Then again, these rifles seem to vary quite a bit from lot to lot, and it is anyone's guess what features will show up in a given year.

Re: Rem 338 LM

?? Bbl's? Well we have been discussing... does the brake come off.. most think yes and I have see a few pic's. And second do they shoot. A few reports say they had issues last year and shut this model down. Looks like they got it fixed and are shipping a few out.

MWDG3- I tried, but my cellphone won't focus on something that close to the lens. Everything came out real blurry. Looks just like a regular Remington bolt, but with the M16 style extractor.

Re: Rem 338 LM

Well shit, I just pulled the trigger on one of the the rifles from Snipcountrypx 5 mins ago and they charged my account and sent receipt. Looks like it's beans and rice for the rest of this month. No I need to start shopping around for components and glass.

If one of you guys gets your rifle from Snipcountrypx make sure and post a review up in this thread or somewhere on here. I'll do the same.

Re: Rem 338 LM

My order was voided out as they ran out right before I ordered.

Sucks, was looking forward to this rifle and bought a set of dies before I got the message. Snipercountrypx is sold out.

Where and how much? I just did a couple searches and couldn;t find it. Can barely afford Snipersountrypx's shipped price of $1133 let alone any more.

Thanx, just curious if they use a bigger bolt or open up an existing magnum bolt. Here's a Howa destined for 338LA, note the thinner boltface ring.

Looks like an opened up Magnum bolt face to me.
