So I ordered a new mount for my Rem 700. I got it and it has #8 screws in it. My 700 is drilled for #6 screws. I see on midway they sell a drill and tap set.

The question is is it normal to change the #6 scope mounting screws to #8?
How hard is it to drill out the #6 screws and get that whole thing to work?

Thanks

Normal yes, not sure if needed depending on the caliber of the rifle.

Not hard to do but not something done with a hand drill in the garage. Best results will be if done on a mill.

Easy button would be to send it back and exchange for the one you need.
