So I just picked up a Remington 700 AAC-SD tuesday, I have already put it into a B&C M40 stock. I am pretty shocked to see how vulnerable the crown is. It is not recessed at all. I am worried about dammaging it. My question is about a thread on flash suppressor or brake. Preferably a flash supressor as a means of protection. Until I can afford a Sound Supressor. I ordered the AAC Blackout flash supressor 51T but it would not thread on all the way as the barrel O.D. is too large. So I sent it back. What have you all used on these barrels that works?
Thanks

The crown is the last part of the barrel the bullet touches, even of its cut flat it's a crown. As far as the threads it should have came with an end cap which would protect them. How did the OD of the barrel prevent the flash hider from seating all the way down? If your wanting a QD for a suppresor then get the one you want and have it mounted by a qualified gunsmith. If the ID of the flash hider isn't threaded all the way through it may the barrel cut back and the threads touched up. Hope that helps you out a bit

IT did come with a tread protector. That will not help protect the crown. The AAC blackout the threads are recessed into it by close to a half an inch, And it is .810" I.D. and my barrel is .849" O.D. It starts on the threads but then stops

That's pretty fucked up considering it's an AAC edition rifle and it should marry perfectly with any AAC brake/hider. Get a brake from RWS here on the hide. They're only $40 but they work very well and the craftsmanship is amazing plus Ross is very quick to get them out to you.

There may have been a burr or something on one side of the threads. As long as it was 5/8x24 it should have fit without any problems but things get messed up sometimes too. Also I never said the thread protector would protect the crown. Your not likely to damage it shooting it either, but I know I've seen a few people mess them up by using it as a stop for their cleaning rod.
Does the thread protector that came with your rifle screw on all the way? If it does then there was likely something inside the flash hider that was off a bit. I would suggest if that you try it again and either let someone take a look at it or buy a high quality 5/8x24 tap and die set and do it yourself. Just know that doing yourself could void the warranty of your suppressor in the future.
