First I would like to apologize of posting another aac-sd and set up post. I could just not post it but I read so many different posts and still cant decide on my set up. I recently bought a Remington 700 aac-sd because I believe that for under 800$ after tax it is pretty hard to beat as far as quality, out of box accuracy, aftermarket parts availability and it came with a half break and half flash hider that also works as a quick detach for my future can.

My problem is that I am running on a limited budget, I have saved money all this year to get back into shooting. I've shot for 5 years then quit for 7, I was really good at it but I had to move due to my studies and didnt get back to it until now. Since I have been away from this great activity for so long I lost most of my knowledge as far as parts, brands, etc. Well I wont keep telling you the story and will get straight to the point.

Stock: I've been looking at bell&carlson, HS-Presicion, Mcmillan, Manners, AICS, XLRs, etc. I find myself attracted to the AICS 1.5 and XLR. I have been considering purchasing them and taking the big hit there because aparently you dont have to bed them (120$ at gunsmith), it comes with a detach magazine kit(300$ for a good one online), and well they look awesome. I want an opinion on that, do you guys think a aics is worth the money, does it perform better than others, would it be a smart purchase?

Optics: I've spent most of my day today looking at scopes, leupolds, millets, burris, nightforce, etc. My budget for a scope would be around 700 dollars +- 50. Would that be enough for a solid scope that I would be able to keep for years and will be accurate up to 6-800 yards?

My purpose is to build a solid shooting rifle to get back into shooting and have good enough equipment to last me for the next couple of years before I can upgrade again. I want good, reliable, accurate parts. I'd rather spend some money and get something that fits the above than getting on the cheaper side and looking for some upgrade within the next couple of months. I really want to make some smart decisions, but feel like I need help from persons with more experience in the field. Getting back into this is like a dream come true to me and I will be spending a lot of time and effort into getting better at it and want my equipment to be able to take me to a decent place before having to upgrade again.

Thank you for your time and patience.

Total cost around $600.</span>

Unless: Maybe an AICS, an EGW base, and a 10X Super Sniper?

Re: Overwhelmed by my set up options Rem. 700 aac sd

I already bought a Harris bipod and got a sling from a friend as a gift this Christmas. If I have to wait a couple of months to get it set up right I will. Like I said before I have 1250 saved but can add a couple hundred on the cc

2.KRG Whiskey-3
3.SLR Evo.

Scopes
1.Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP Riflescope
2.Leupold Mark 4 4.5-14x50mm LR/T M1 Long Range Tactical Rifle 3.Swarovski Z3 4-12x50 Rifle Scopes.

Please advice.

Re: Overwhelmed by my set up options Rem. 700 aac sd

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the DBM right now.
Put as much cash into the glass as you can, then drop the rifle into a B&C stock. either the varmint tactical, light tactical or the M40.

These stocks have a full length aluminum bedding block and are very well made.

You can always have CDI, Hooper ordnance or the like inlet it later or go with an XLR or AICS.

Glass:
I would recommend either the Vortex PST, the weaver tactical or one of the new bushnell FFP scopes.
They come in anywhere from 750 - 950.

There is a low cost base available that is very well made, the Weaver extended multi-slot 20 MOA rail.

I will add this caveat, XLR will charge you 50% upfront for the chassis, you will then have about 14 weeks until you get the chassis, they will charge the other 50% at that time.

Re: Overwhelmed by my set up options Rem. 700 aac sd

Have you handled any of those chassis? I haven't, I think they look wicked, but from what I've read people seem to love or hate the fit of them, and they say the AICS is pretty heavy. Might try to get your hands on one before laying that kinda coin. I have a B&C A3, it fits me, might not fit you, I have another pre medalist one that minus some chips in the finish is still getting along just fine after 18yrs chasing caribou and sheep thru Alaska so I'd say they're plenty durable. Wyatt DBM is supposed to bolt right on a B&C. Vortex is a quality product, warranty is awesome, and transfers. Left over money can go towards ammo, a reloading set up, or saving up for that can you mentioned.

+1 on Fdkay's comments. And I will add that there are plenty of good used items for sale here on the Hide. Most of the members here take pretty good care of their gear and are honest about an items condition when seeling.

Re: Overwhelmed by my set up options Rem. 700 aac sd

I'm in pretty much the same boat as you. I just got into shooting long range, and I'm working on setting up an 700 sps tactical. I wanted the XLR or the AICS but, they are a lot of coin. I just ordered a B&C today. It was 200ish and I have seen guy getting really good groups for the money with those. I figured, for the money saved I can put it towards other parts of my project for now. Not to mention, you can always resell and recoup a large chunk of your money. I have watched videos of people with B&C stocks shooting sub .5 MOA.

I ordered a bushnell HDMR w/gap G2 Reticle from the GB here at the hide. I just got my tracking info today which I'm really excited about. I dropped a little more on that then I was thinking about spending on a scope but once I saw all those people with really expensive setups rocking them, I knew they were the best buy for the money. FFP, 3x21, 34mm tube, lockable turrets, reticle designed by premier rifle builders/shooters. Yea, if you can use some money leftover from not getting a chassis on this scope, might be money well spent. I had a leupold vx3l that I just sold to a friend. Not a bad scope for the case (700 bucks). It just wasn't enough in the reticle department. I narrowed my 2 choices down to either a nightforce with the velocity 1000 or the busnell HDMR. The HDMR won after everything I have read.

As for rings and base I haven't decided just yet. I'm thinking that I might get seekings or badger. I have heard nothing but great things about each.

Bipod - Harris BRMS - 84 bucks on ebay.

I got a Tactical Intervention sling. Awesome slings for the money. Quick detach loop sling. 65 bucks new (got mine on ebay for 35)

Bolt handle I'll just get the KGB bolt uplift for awhile to see if I like it, then I'll think about sending my bolt off to have a handle professionally installed. Until then 35 bucks isn't bad to get an upgrade thats functional and give me a better idea of the shape I might want.

Now all I need is get to get the dies for my lee press, and a case trimmer and I'll begin reloading as well. I already reload for pistol. This will be my first rifle excursion.

Re: Overwhelmed by my set up options Rem. 700 aac sd

i have a 6.5-20 x 40 with TMR and M1 knobs. I also am ordering a W3 this week - notice that nowhere does it say whether or not it includes a mag...

Re: Overwhelmed by my set up options Rem. 700 aac sd

i hear the sightron III's are good scopes for that kind of money, think one can even be had with mil adjustments too.

Re: Overwhelmed by my set up options Rem. 700 aac sd

Well guys after countless hours of research and reading posts here on the hide, I finally purchased all my equipment. Took me about 6 months of saving, some CC help, and lots of time researching. Well here it goes.

Rifle: Rem 700 AAC-SD with half break/flash hider.
Stock: AICS 2.0 (bought here on the hide)
Bipod: Harris 6-9 (bought here on the hide)
Scope: Bushnell Elite HDMR (bought here on the hide)
Scope Base: Badger Ordnance 20 MOA (bought on the hide)
Scope Rings: Seekins Low 34mm (bought on the hide)

I want to thank everyone that gave me a good deal on the things I bought and everyone that responded to my posts with good advice. Pics will come monday once I have everything installed. By the way I really went over my budget, but I guess buy once cry once right?

Will pair up nicely with my Pinzgauer! Planning a hunt soon! </div></div>

i wanna go!! haha that would be awesome to go hunting in!

Re: Overwhelmed by my set up options Rem. 700 aac sd

Not thinking about a trigger yet, my stock one breaks pretty nicely and I want to get some rounds down range with it before I think about changing it. But I would go with a Timney according to my research.

Re: Rem. 700 aac sd Finished!!

very nice setup. Any reason you picked the aac? from the looks of it you could have saved some money (up front) buying a sps varmit about 200$ cheaper. and added the same stuff to a varmit.

just wondering not bashing your choice

Re: Rem. 700 aac sd Finished!!

I just finished a build with mine. I sold all my custom rifles and only have this one. So far I have been more than impressed with the capabilities of this rifle. One thing to note, if you want to get this rifle above 2650fps with 175’s to hit 1000yds consistently, then you got to use Power Pro 2000MR. RL-15 just wasn’t cutting it.

Specs:
Rem 700 AAC-SD
Manners T4A with Mini-chassis
Badger 20moa base
Timney trigger set at 3lbs
Vortex Razor.
