Is there a difference in the action itself on these models? I am looking to do a build off of a Remy 700 action but wasn't sure if it was worth spending the extra money for lets say a "Sendaro" instead of a "SPS" when I am going to be truing the action, custom barrel, and different stock.

Any thoughts?

Also, I have a 300 Weatherby Stainless Vanguard that wont hold a pattern for its life. How are the weatherby actions as a building point? Maybe this would be an option.

Thanks All!

Re: Rem 700 Actions

remington 700 actions are great for building onto and off of as far as non custom actions go. the cdl and bdl refers to the magazine. BDL is the hinged floor plate model whereas cdl's magazine is only accessible once the bolt is open from the top. as far as the difference between sendero and pss refers to the stock, barrel length, and finish. i beleive the sendero is stainless. after that you need to figure out if yours is a long action or a short action.

Re: Rem 700 Actions

Good to know.

After the research I think my best BC will come from a 7mm of some sort. It's main purpose will be "LONG RANGE HUNTING" (I know, theres a forum for that) out to 1000yrds or beyond.

I just need to settle on a specific 7mm so I can go from there. I welcome suggestions if anyone would like to give them

Not so...
BDL and CDL wear the same bottom metal, hinged. ADL is a blind mag,top extraction.

My CDL has a hinged floor. I think that's backwards.

Re: Rem 700 Actions

Methinks that the problem with the Weatherby is shooter induced.
They are far from pleasant to shoot from the bench, you pattern a shotgun, hopefully you shoot groups with your rifle.

If you want to build a rifle on a 700 action, go to wally world or your nearest large sporting goods store and buy the cheapest remington 700 ADL with the proper bolt face. Should cost you about 350 to 370 bucks.

Re: Rem 700 Actions

I wish the problem was shooter induced but sadly it wasn't. We (Myself and two other shooters) have shot the rifle from a bench, prone, etc, etc but to no avail. We even did the proper break in process with the barrel. It didn't matter what we did - the best group it would hold was 1.5 inches at 100yds. With that kind of accuracy its not worth wasting money to run shells through it, IMO. If 100yds was all it would be shot then it would be "OK" but when the gun was intended for Long Range shots - not acceptable. I opted to take the optics off the Weatherby and put it on the 300Win Mag. MUCH BETTER shooter. Weatherby now has a home in the back of the gun safe.

Re: Rem 700 Actions

1.5 to 2 inch groups are absolutely acceptable for a hunting rifle. You are shooting at a target area of about 9 inches when hunting white tails or even larger if after mulies or elk.
That means your rifle is capable of hunting accuracy out to 400 plus yards. Good enough.

Re: Rem 700 Actions

If your going to true it and Throw a custom tube on it, I'd stick with the weatherby. Its a very over-engineered action, with quite a few positive attributes that when put in a vs situation, the weatherby comes out ahead. Bolt, extractor, recoil lug, firing pin assembly, reciever bedding area, and its got that same happy horse-shit "3 rings of steel" that Remington boasts .

Agreed. I have a custom rifle built on a Weatherby and it is a SHOOTER. But I must caveat that. This only holds true for a MKV. I wouldn't build off a SubMoa or Vanguard.

I also have customs built on Rem 700s, as small as a 204 Ruger to as big as a 338 Lapua.

They all have their places. But if I had a Weatherby MKV in the safe, I'd go that route. They are ROCK solid.
