Does anyone make a higher capacity detatchable magazine for the 700 short action factory bottom metal? I wouldnt mind having a couple extra rounds and also on occasion I have trouble seating the magazine without having to change my shooting position or using a bit of force because it sits flush with the bottom of the stock. I think having a little extra magazine to grab would help me seat it and also give me something to pull on the check to see that it is seated properly. Any ideas? Also it's a work rifle so I dont want to sink a few hundred dollars into the agency rifle if I dont have to for all new bottom metal. thanks

Unfortunately, I do not think Remington makes any higher capacity mags, your only option is Badger mag system and have a smith (Like R&D Precision) tune the receiver to work with AW or AICS mags (or both). This Mod will cost more than a few hundred though....

nope. factory metal is not great stuff and there is no hi-cap option.

That is ABSOLUTELY NOT your only option. Have you been under a rock for the last 5 years? I can think of at least 8 DBM setups, that use either AICS or proprietary mags (very few will play well with AW mags since they are fat).

DBM systems:
surgeon
badger
seekins
HS precision
Wyatts
Kwik clip (long action only)
vbull
Cdi precision
more I can't even think of right now...

Since it's a work rifle, here's what I'd do:

Go get an HS magazine setup, since it's pretty much the only short action system that will drop in without chopping up your stock. Might need very slight fitting, but it should go right in.

This way, you can put it in and when your agency goes to something else you can take it off and put the OEM crap back on. Then you can put the HS on a personal rifle or just sell it on the web.

There are systems out there that are better than the HS in my mind, but for your application they will pretty much be a forefit when the agency wants the rifle back. I'd go HS so that you can retain your investment.

5 & 10 round mags available for .308 based cartridges.

Re: Rem 700 detatchable magazine

The factory detachable mag 700's have the bottom of the receiver machined, I would call one of the smiths on this site and ask if one of the systems listed above will work.

Re: Rem 700 detatchable magazine

yes, the feed rails are wider to clear the mag, which is why he'll have to stick with a mag system I think. I don't know that he can go to floorplate with that action without mods, but he might be able to use the mag system. I'd see what a smith has to say. Try GA or randy cain or someone like that.

Re: Rem 700 detatchable magazine

Yeah...there is a plastic do-hickey that goes with the BDL metal. It adds 1-2 rounds of 308sized cases....saw one on a rifle FS here a while ago. Midway has them IIRC...I will look.

While looking I saw you wanted a DM system...but if it is only $20 maybe this will help you out?

Sorry for trying!!!

Re: Rem 700 detatchable magazine

not if he has the factory DBM, since he can't retrofit the floorplate without some work, IIRC. It's a cool little doohickey, but if you have the remmy DBM you're up shit creek I think.

perhaps Randy or someone that has smithed one up can tell us for sure?

also, i'm note sure about the HS dropping in either now, since I recalled that the remmy DM has a notched stock. Perhaps it would have to be bedded in?

Not to get off-topic, but in about six (6) months Tac Ops will be introducing their own DBM. I am not at liberty to say more than it will be made of 300 Series Stainless, just like their new floorplates. The Tac Ops floorplates will be great upgrades over the standard M700 BDL floorplates, and very nice upgrades over the optional Williams floorplates often used on Tac Ops rifles.

A side benefit of Tac Ops producing their own floorplates is that lead times could potentially be reduced (or at least not delayed due to botttom metal wait times, which has resulted in delays of 30 weeks before). My particular X-Ray 51 and about 40 others were delayed while awaiting bottom metal.
