I have an remmy 700 PSS, H/S precision stock, 26" heavy barrel (1:12 i think), .308.

I am going to have a smith cut threads for a break, but now I have been thinking about having the barrel cut down to make it a recon rifle. I like the recon style rifle, but I dont know what kind of range to be able to expect with them.

Anyone have any ideas about what I could expect from a 16"-18" 700 .308?

Thanks,
Sean

Re: Rem 700 recon?

We shot the 20 inch FN SPR A5's out past 1100 at ASC last month and they performed VERY well. Also, the CORBON load was only running 2520 (175's) so not like it was a hot load. You should be able to get to 1,000 without too much trouble.

Re: Rem 700 recon?

Ok cool, I really want to keep the availability to go to 1000 yds but I don't shoot that far yet, and other then mabe competitions or practice for them I prob won't shoot that far.

I just know that barrel length has alot of say as to how far you can shoot accurately, and I don't want to compromise the acuracy of my rifle just to look cool.

Thanks for the input

Re: Rem 700 recon?

Hell ya, now im sold. I will be taking the rifle to the smith prob next week to get it cut. Now that I know that the rifle will still preform at long ranges im all in.

And at 1k yards a 50% hit rate is fine with me considering im still not shooting that far, and dont plan on shooting that distance often if at all.

thanks alot

I shot this one at 1k all of the time. With FGMM 175's too...
