I have a Rem 700 SPS, which is the short tactical with a 20" barrel. This s a fun play gun...so I made only a few minor changes to it including a Bell&Carlson stock and a Timney Trigger. Eventually it will get the full treatment or truing, re-barreling, DBM, and better stock. I am probably a year out before ATF clears my accessory so no use in rushing the project. But for now it is a fun plinker.

Here is the problem - for being as heavy a gun coupled with as light of a caliber (.223) the gun literally jumps off the bench. It is a sight to see from the side while someone shoots. No matter how much down pressure you put on the bipod the front end jumps like a bucking horse. This muzzle jump is distinctly different than my other guns, which includes a similar Rem 700 SPS (20" barrel) in .308. I was thinking about adding a muzzle break to offset this behavior. Any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks,
Edward

Interesting ....... I just bought the same gun. Haven't fired it yet. Will let you know if I have the same problem when I do. What ammo you shooting?

I am shooting handloads - 23.4gr TAC with 69gr Sierra Matchking. By no means is this a hot load...just a relatively accurate sub-300yrd plinker. You would think I was sending a rocket down the tube the way it bucks off the bench.

Bipods and benches don't mix. Try bags on the bench and bipod on the dirt. Unless you are just looking to justify a muzzle break for your .223. I've done similar.
