Looking at both of these options. From what I can tell, the only difference is non threaded vs. threaded barrel and 1-12 twist vs 1-10 twist. Am I missing anything?

If not, what is the benefit of 1-12 vs 1-10? I'm not decided between 16",18", and 20" barrel yet. Is one twist better than the other for different barrel lengths?

I'll be using the rifle for hunting and steel shooting 600 and in.
    Thanks for any help.

1 in 10 twist will stabilize a heavier bullet. I think it will stabilize around 200gr reliably.

Get the AAC if you want to stabilize these heavier projectiles or if you want a threaded barrel.

Get the tact if you don't.

Having both, I have yet to see a +/- for either.

I don’t have as much time on the Remington factory 1-10 AAC 20” barrel yet with bullets of different weights, just 168 a-max and 175. In the 1-12 20" tactical I have used match bullets from the 155's up through 190 berger VLD's... Stabilization is not an issue with the 1-12 twist until you’re into the 200+ weight/length match bullets at standard 308 velocities. I suppose once you slow them down to sub-sonic launch velocities (for say suppressed use) this may play more of a roll if you want to continue using match type bullets. But here the short and heavy soft points may be a better option if you have any hope for expansion and those should still be GTG.

Once weather conditions improve it will be interesting to see if my AAC 1-10 will handle the lighter 155's as well as the 1-12 does. I have heard it can be a little more finicky with lighter bullets but I have yet to verify this. As for load differences, both rifles share the same powder charges for the 175 smk and share the same velocity. So in the end it would depend on price between the two and if you want a threaded barrel... barrel threading from a gunsmith or machine shop runs anywhere from 50 to 150 dollars.

Here is a thread I wrote and keep updated on my tactical along with load data
