Just picked up a Remington 700 Stainless in 300RUM w/ a sporter barrel.

It came with a laminated thumbhole stock. I'd like to get something that's lighter weight, but still accurate and good quality.

Anyone have opinions? I plan on hunting with this, but hopefully capable of reaching the range of the cartridge.

I come from the AR world, so bolt action stocks are new to me.

Thanks,

Would like to keep the whole build under $3K.

I'm into the rifle $450 (Rem700 stainless 26" barell w/ holland muzzle break)

Was thinking:
-Stock: HS Precision($300ish)
-Trigger: Timney ($130)
-Scope/Rings/Base (need input on brand, but I figure around $1200-1500 is the budget)
-Bottom Metal w/ removable mag (if there's an option)
-Bipod (have an Atlas)

I backordered the H-S Precision Pro-Series 2000 M24 A1 Tactical Stocks for the Remington #3 contour OD Green w/ black web. It will be a little larger barrel channel than my sporter barrel, but I want to make sure that it's completely free floated.

Looks great! I would definitely check the weight of the laminated stock you have now and compare it to whatever HS stock you plan on buying..

Yeah, stocky's says 2.6lbs, so I'll have to compare that to what I have. My rifle came with one of the thumbhole lexington stocks, I'm pretty sure it'll weigh a bit more than the HS.

Anyone interested in a thumbhole stock........
