I was going to reshape a very nice 700 stock I have to accommodate a 721 action. But then I got to thinking (ruh-roh), 700 trigger/safety could work? What about a 700 bolt?

I noticed a few 721 bolts selling for same or more than used 700 bolts, handle is already bent to fit my stock, extractors easy to find vs 721 extractors.

So can I use a 700 trigger and bolt without too much smith work? Good idea?

Thanks

Trigger will work great. The safety however will not. 721/722 recievers are not cut for the 700 safety. The 721 safety will not work on a 700 trigger. I cut off the top half of my old 721 safety and welded it to the bott0m part of the 700 trigger.

You could have the action milled out to use the 700 safety.

The 721 stamped tigger gaurd won't work with the 700 trigger either. Curve of the trigger is too far back.

I have installed many 700 type triggers into 721/722 rifles. Aside from the before mentioned safety issues, I have had to make no other modifications. I have encountered trigger bow issues when installing 700 type triggers into XP-100/600 actions.

Yep, drops right in.

Any reason swapping in a 700 bolt would not be better than staying with 721 bolt? 700 bolt has readily available extractors, handle already correct shape for my stock.
