So I have a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in 308. As most others with this rifle I traded out the stock pretty quickly. I got a 700 VS take off stock. I'm not sure on the model # but pretty sure that it is the HS Precision PSV002. Anyways once I put the rifle into the stock I could not manipulate the bolt release. The trigger group was pushed all the way over to the left of the stock, right if you look at it from the bottom. The bolt release was pushed up against the bottom metal. See 1st pic.
After some reading I found a thread here about milling out the stock. As it turns out this HS stock was set up for the old style 700 trigger. The X Mark pro trigger has a larger foot print. So for quite some time I meticulousy ground out a portion of the stock. See 2nd pic.
So now that the stock has been dremeled out and the action sits in I can move it back and forth (without BM and screws in). Since it has play left and right I figured it was enough material dremeled out and put the BM back on. And epic fail! The trigger group is still pushed up against the BM.
I got ticked off so I tried my wife's VTR in the HS stock. Same results. Still being a pain in the a$$. Well I got to looking a little bit more closely and think that I've found the problem.
So I took the BM and screwed it onto the receiver. And BAM! Found the problem. One of the pins that holds the trigger in place is too wide. The pin itself is what has been pushing against the BM forcing the trigger to one side. See 3rd pic.
So now I'm in a position to where I must decide what to do. The pillars in the stock are short to where the BM is getting tightened over the screws so I could pillar and skim bed. Or get an older style trigger.
Either way, I wanted to share with you all about my misfortunes (yet enlightenment) and hope it can help you out. Sorry about the pictures being crappy so that's why I used red to emphasize areas.

Re: Rem 700 XMark Trigger and HS P

I think you need to stop and take it to someone who is used to working with newer Remingtons.

In your last pic I think the bottom metal is sitting too far up on the trigger group.

If you are re-using the bottom metal from the Hogue stock you should not have any clearance issues from the bottom metal.

The bottom metal is original. And when the rifle is installed the BM sits close to the reciever (on the pin). The 3rd pic was to illustrate what was happening.
Right now I'm at a loss and may put the HS stock away for the season and go Antelope hunting with the original Hogue stock.

I got into this exact same predicament. SPS short action, same exact VS take off stock. It would not fit, I didn't want to dremel... So I bought a AICS 2.0 yesterday...lol not the cheapest solution, but the VS stock is for sale... I don't trust myself with a dremel.
